Erase Time: Deep Wrinkle Treatments

08.26.09

It is a fact of life that everything ages. Trees lose their leaves, metal objects rust, photographs lose their vibrant color, and our skin becomes less elastic. When our skin finally succumbs to the effects of age, it loses it elasticity. As a result, facial wrinkles start popping out of nowhere. Every day we smile, laugh, get angry, cry; all these emotions and their corresponding facial expressions fold and stretch skin. For young skin this is not a problem, it always goes back to its original shape but for older skin it yields to these forces; hence, in some areas you have folds and wrinkles, in others you have sagging. For those who want to address these problems, one needs to look for the most effective deep wrinkle treatment available since some of the treatments out there are quite expensive, painful or a complete waste of money and effort.

The Wrinkle Treatments Around

If you want to avail of deep wrinkle treatment then expect that the procedure would require more than one session. Most deep wrinkle treatments aim at exposing the young skin cells underneath, that means the older skin cells must be removed. This will take time since having deep facial wrinkles mean that you have thick layer of old skin and, you just can remove these layers in one go. One of the earliest and most common deep wrinkle treatment created by modern western medicine is the face lift. Here, the face of your skin surgically pulled towards the ear and temples. This tightens the skin making the folded and creased areas stretch and smoothen; nevertheless, having a facelift is still an invasive medical procedure. Therefore it should be taken with a word caution.

One of the more sci-fi sounding wrinkle treatments out there is the laser treatment. The procedure utilizes CO2 lasers to vaporize old skin cells. This achieves two things. Younger skin cells will be exposed, and because of the heat, collagen production is stimulated. Collagen is an important type of protein since it is responsible for making skin elastic. As mentioned, the deeper the facial wrinkles are the more laser wrinkle treatments one should have. Although the procedure is not invasive in nature, it still causes some level of pain and discomfort since your topmost layer of skin is being vaporized with a laser. You also need to consider this wrinkle treatment’s recovery period which is two weeks. Another modern non-invasive wrinkle treatment is the thermage. In this wrinkle treatment, radio frequencies are used instead of lasers. The radio frequencies target only collagen and stimulate them. With collagen stimulated the skin can gain back some of its lost elasticity.
